    Actually, most of the drop in lager sales seems to have gone to cider rather than to ale (and don't call me Ashley)

    The switch to cider may be linked to price as well as taste, I think tax on cider is less then on beers, introduced some years back to protect UK cider producers & workers, who probably vote Tory given the main areas of production

    Bit like less tax on Scotch whisky than the Japanese import

    For me I would rather drink cider than lager, but that is more age related I guess

    A few years ago the only cider choice in many pubs that now have a cask and draught option would have been Strongbow or Dry Blackthorn. I think that a lot more money is being spent on advertising to make cider the cool drink, thus a rise in sales.
