Work is the curse of the drinking Class - Oscar Wilde
To put some more flesh on the bones of my suggestion, I did a little research trip to Chesterfield this afternoon. (I have written detailed directions because I have walked this many times, but most of you guys haven't.)
Arriving at Chesterfield station at 14:48, I walked to the Chesterfield Arms. For the sake of realism, I used the toilet facilities at Chesterfield station before leaving, did not overtake anyone on the stairs, and walked at a steady pace including waiting for the lights to change at crossings, rather than dashing recklessly through speeding cars as I normally do.
When leaving the station, cross over two zebra crossings in front of the statue of George Stephenson, then cross the road to the right and around the corner onto Malkin Street. Do not head towards the church with the twisted spire.
Walk to the right of a small roundabout and onto Brewery Street; some people I know would think that there's a pretty steep hill in the middle part, past a bus stop on the right; at the top turn right and use two pelican crossings to then walk past a car wash at the start of Newbold Road (B6051). This goes past the entrance to Trinity Church, where George Stephenson is buried, and very soon the gable end of the Chesterfield Arms comes into view.
I arrived at 15:05.
I followed the progress of my bus on bustimes.org - it was due at 15:51. The 90 and 90A are on the same timetable and map - just Google "bus 90 chesterfield" and you should find it ok. The stop before the one we want on Sheffield Road (B6057) is the bus depot, where the crew sometimes change and time is allowed on the timetable. This means that the bus sometimes arrives early at our stop. I left the pub just after 15:40 after authentically losing track of time while writing a text message. I had to slurp down my beers and make a quick toilet stop before leaving the pub about 10 minutes before the bus was due. I walked through Trinity Churchyard, stopping briefly to decide whether I had time to look for George Stephenson's grave marker. (I didn't.) I arrived at the bus stop on the other side of the road and a short distance to the right at about 15:49; the bus was due at 15:51 but arrived about 30 seconds after I got there, so a minute early.
The bus was still ahead of time at the central bus station (on New Beetwell Street) and waited there a few minutes. We set off on Chatsworth Road (A619) and arrived at the stop just before the roundabout near Morrisons at 16:08. I crossed at the roundabout and walked to the Rose & Crown, arriving at 16:10, almost exactly 30 minutes after leaving the Chesterfield Arms.
So it can be done!
Come On You Hatters!
Will that's very thorough but the two pubs scheduled after the Rose & Crown, namely Real Ale Corner and Anchor dont open on Fridays until 3pm.Just two pubs ,however good they maybe ,by 3pm is rather slow going by PuG standards. So I just wonder if we should tackle one or two pubs in the town centre on the way to the Chesterfield Arms which should avoid hanging about for late openers.

There isn't anywhere near the station! If you want to revert to (a variant of) Steve's original idea of doing the Pig & Pump or the Rutland Arms or the Market, that's fine. But there are likely to be fewer takers for a 15 minute walk to the CA followed by a bus journey to the R&C if we've already done all three! (If going for this option, the Rutland is a reasonable walk from the station, and also nearest to the Chesterfield Arms, or buses going that way.)
Alternatively, there are two or three other pubs near the Rose & Crown in Brampton (actually there's more than three, but these would make good wild cards): the Britannia and the Victoria, plus the Original Gravity. All three have the CAMRA two pint glasses recommendation for the quality of their cask beers. If we arrive at the R&C at 13:45 we could spread out amongst the others until the Real Ale Corner opens at 3pm. (And I think it would be better to arrive at the RAC in smaller groups at a few minute intervals, as it's a very small bottle shop!)
I think the three town centre ones fit more naturally at the end of the route, with a 10 minute walk to the station.

Come On You Hatters!
With a fortnight until the crawl,I though it worthwhile to do a roll call of those attending. It might also be useful to get arrival and departure times at Chesterfield station to help planning.Apologies if I have included/excluded anyone ,I will update the list as corrections flow in.
