....and the winner is Friday July 18th.

If some kind person can change the thread title to reflect this date, then planning can begin.

I would imagine that there are more decent pubs than we could ever fit into a days crawl, which are the unmissable pubs in the city centre ?

One of the problems with arranging a pub circuit in York is that a lot of the city centre pubs are crammed with tourists and don't always have a cask beer focus. Thus, of the pubs in the current Good Beer Guide, only the Market Cat and the Blue Bell are truly in the city centre, and the latter has a "no large groups" policy! This map makes the situation clear. If we were to aim to do all - or even most - of the pubs on this map, there would have to be some careful planning because of late opening pubs (even on a Friday!) and the walking distances might not suit everyone.

Good points and it'd have been similar for Newcastle I think with stag/hen limitations.

Being just before school summer holidays and when students are away should help a bit.

I can think of a couple of places which would be decent and large enough, but not on the classic York circuit.

    Careful planning

Sorry missed to vote on this one as was away travelling. Wouldnt have made a difference anyway as the clear winner is the only weekend I cannot make of the dates given. Hopefully see you in November for the next one.

Sounds like careful planning is required although I guess the starting point should be easy for most arrivals.....The York Tap helpfully opening at 10am

Simple. We just enter individually. And in any event, how do they define "large groups"?

Maybe best later on during the day , as the crawl drifts into smaller groups rather than everyone barreling in together early on.

I remember a local in the Swan getting quite aggressive with a few of the group back in 2015... and someone had gone ahead to ask if it was OK for us to enter as a large group, which it was. I think this was the only place we had any issue though.

I also won't be making this one because I start a new job beginning of July and have a 2 week holiday booked for August so I've got no vacation days to play with unfortunately... which will also be the case in November

I also recall a local getting a bit shirty in 2016 at the Royal Blenheim; I think the old curmudgeon still drinks there, so will check him out on the August bank holiday.
