    Default New Camra website links

Looks like the former WhatPub links on Pubs Galore have been updated to take you to the new Camra website - not sure whether that organisation or Dave did this, but it should help future proof things.

I think CAMRA must be automatically diverting referrals to the new site. Our hyperlinks still show the old branch reference addresses, but open the new pages which have a unique number at the end.
On leaving the bar, I felt a strong blow to the back of my head. Turning round, I discovered it was the pavement

It is part me and part them. I have changed the links so they are no longer to whatpub, but still using the ending that they had on whatpub.

    So instead of linking to
    https://whatpub.com/pubs/AVN/1333/pi...parrot-bristol

    We are now pointing to
    https://camra.org.uk/AVN/1333/

That then redirects at the CAMRA end to
    https://camra.org.uk/pubs/pickled-parrot-bristol-198309

Hopefully they will keep those links working as presumably the new links will change slightly when the name of the pub changes

For the time being to add links to the site it is best to use the Whatpub link still, as that one should be automatically recognised

This is what I was told by Camra's Pete Horn last September:

"No, the only important thing is ‘WhatPub dot com’ and ‘/PubId’, the ‘/pubs’ bit being optional for WhatPub. In CAMRA CE the /pubs bit will break a PubID link, the format will be camra.org.uk/PubID."

Looks like that change has now been implemented, and what you've done should continue to work.

That's what I've been doing, but once or twice I forgot and just coppied the URL from the new Camra website. Interestingly, when I did it again just now (because we had a link to a page that Camra had deleted), it gave me the correct new link, but it also wants me to use that link as the "official site" of the pub.

This seems like it should be quite easy to fix, but what do I know?

    Dave?

The best thing at the moment is to continue using the 'old' WhatPub address (which still shows it separately as the Camra link), rather than the new 'Camra Experience' link which just adds it as a pub or other general link.

The both draw on the same database, but one way gives a clearer result than the other.

But the new Camra Experience link doesn't "just" add a pub or general link, it adds a link to Camra Experience. This is a change from how Dave set it up in January.

I have completely stopped using WhatPub because the functionality of Camra Experience is now so much better. So if I need to add a Camra link on Pubs Galore I have to open WhatPub and do a search for the pub that I already have open on Camra Experience! This is why I have - a couple of times - simply posted the URL from the website that I already have open, rather than the one I would need to open.

If the posting of the Camra Experience URL now does something different to what Dave set up in January, either something has changed at Camra's end, or something has changed at Pubs Galore's end. Whatever has changed, it is almost working: it does create a working link from PG to CE. But it also creates an unwanted link which needs to be deleted. It is frustrating to have have a bit of gear that *almost* works!

I think we're talking at cross purposes, slightly.

If you add a WhatPub link, is shows up as a separate 'CAMRA WhatPub :: Xxxx Yyyy Zzzz' link at the bottom of the list (below any Twitter and Facebook links), as it always did, but it actually now takes you to the Camra Experience page.

However, if you add the actual Camra Experience link, it shows up as a 'Official site of Xxxx Yyyy Zzzz' link, and although you can manually edit that text, it will always be in the top part of the list (above any Twitter and Facebook links).

No, it does both! Or at least, sometimes it does both...
