"why've I not heard about this pub"
Just had that holy trinity of great atmosphere, great beer, and unbelievable building.
The Pele, Corbridge . I'd never heard about it until doing research on Hexham a few days ago and deciding to do a small ale trail.
The fact I pretty much had to scramble my pint up extremely steep stone floors from the 13th century with a hand on the fourth step steadying me. Got up to the third floor which was trickier still.
Not for everyone but to me more memorable than a staid micropub with chalk written beers.
I can see it's not for everyone but this deserves a lot of accolades for what it has done.
Picture London Euston in a quarter of the size but with an extra floor and trickier stairs.
...
I do suppose I like to know good places to go. But finding diamonds like this when you don't really expect them...maybe I should join the flat roof lager boys...
