If you only know the year, you can enter 'yyyy (with the ' being important because it makes Excel think it's text not a number), e.g. '1987 (because if you just enter 1987 Excel will convert it to 9 June 1905!).

If you know the month and year, I would recommend uncertain dates in the form of yyyy-mm (which will be treated as text without needing the '), e.g. 2009-07 for July 2009.

If you can only guess the decade you could enter something like 198x or 200x, or 19xx or 20xx for century.

The important point is to start with the year and be consistent the formatting because the text 'dates' will sort automatically in any alphabetical list.

Delboy, if you were to mention here the columns you may want in a spreadsheet, suggestions above but you may want to add first date visited, most recent visit, number of beers etc, then I'm sure one of us could knock up the template to send you and you can just rename it and add/overtype your own data...

Does your laptop have excel? Mine, painfully, does not, but I can still use it via office, albeit a bit of a workaround.
    Laptop? You must be joking!!
Luckily my old fashioned PC does have excel and I think I'm off and running - just figuring out "filters"!

To me a filter was what the rich kids at college put in their roll ups!

I use Apache LibraOffice which does (almost) everything MS Office does, is fully compatible with MS Office and Apple, and it's free.

I wish I'd started out using a spreadsheet, but I just have the Year --> Month --> Name --> PuG code, but no score.

No mate, we used a roach (the corner of your fag paper packet) - the rich kids had proper filters!

Just a quick update for anybody interested!

I have made a start and done the last 2 years. I have also done 2009 and moved into 2010.

I am at just over 600 and I've only just started!
