There's a fair amount of walking required to get to the GBG listed pubs, some of the micros are in suburban shopping centres too.Opening times may also be an issue,as 4pm openings during the week are quite common. There are probably 6 in the city centre worth doing( before tackling the outliers) ,including a dutch barge.

I haven't drunk in Burton for many years so would be happy to renew my acquaintance.
On leaving the bar, I felt a strong blow to the back of my head. Turning round, I discovered it was the pavement
I'm up for Burton in principal, but my attendance will be dependent on train prices... so the more notice the better

That's a good point. Time flows onwards, so we could do with making a decision on both location and date. Is it possible to set up two polls on one thread? Or if not, could someone with the know-how please set up two polls?
It looks like we've got these possible locations:
1) Burton upon Trent
2) Stoke (aka the Five Towns: Tunstall, Burslem, Hanley, Stoke and Longton; or is it Six Towns? Can someone set up a poll....)
3) Kings Lynn
4) Lincoln
5) Lichfield & Tamworth
6) Peterborough
....and I'll just mention 7) Newark, which has appeared on one of these threads before but has never made it through the poll, despite its good pubs and fast connections on the east coast main line.
...and these possible dates in October:
Saturday, 1st
Friday, 7th
Saturday, 8th
Friday, 14th
Saturday, 15th
Friday, 21st
Saturday, 22nd
Friday, 28th
Saturday, 29th

Well the polls have closed and the decision is Burton on Friday 14th October.
Hopefully that gives a decent amount of time to book tickets, etc.
I'm sure there will be lots of suggestions about where to visit. The choice of a Friday does mean that the two micropubs near the station will both open later in the afternoon ; Last Heretic at 3pm,Weighbridge at 4pm according to What Pub,so maybe worth considering them as venues towards the end of the crawl as we head back towards the station.
However an upside of choosing a Friday is that this is the only day when the Tower Brewery Tap opens (from 4pm til midnight).
Swings and roundabouts.

Thinking about when to book tickets to Burton,am I right to say that unions have to give 1 months notice of industrial action on public transport ? Wouldn't want to buy tickets in advance for a strike day.
