Couldn't agree more, Jim. What do they learn at school these days? And in the next paragraph "Plans to demolish the pub and redevelop it into a flat block were refused by Merton Council". A flat block would be like the monolith in 2001: A Space Odyssey, and you couldn't expect to get planning permission for one of those in SW. A block of flats, as we say in English, might be another matter.
