It's that other list we all wait for (not)... The usual random selection drawn from places that paid to enter the "National Pub & Bar Awards". Roxy Ball Rooms anyone? Now all the shortlisted ones have to pay to attend the Awards Dinner, just in case they win something. (OK, I admit I was once involved in running Awards dinners!).

I have absolutely no intention of seeing if I have been to any of them. https://pubandbar.com/story.php?s=20...ds-recognition
On leaving the bar, I felt a strong blow to the back of my head. Turning round, I discovered it was the pavement

The Roxy Ballroom is a new one to me and a work 5 mins from there. I assume it is newly opened! How on earth did the April/May (or other recent) edition of London Drinker miss that one? Surely letters to CAMRA needed? I will fall on my sword to check out next week to establish beer offering - I suspect we can largely guess components of range. I added the Liverpool St Chop House Tabern here late last year. That is a rather dubious selection - the restaurant is good but the pub, whilst a cosy place, isn’t really up to much beer wise. The other venue equally would see it behind many dozen other Coty quaffing establishments if it was based on pub merits.

The GLomdon choices are largely a set of pretentious up their own arses venues, albeit the Lord N is OK.

Just choked on my beer seeing the South Glamorgan choices! Added the last here but not visited yet, the two Cardiff ones are a joke surely? The Daffodil is below average even for Cardiff, four venues in a 5 min walk of there and easily the worst of just those four (ok the Central Bar, Pen & Wig and Flute & Tankard set a very high bar)!!

I was tempted to stop reading as soon as I saw Slug & Lettuce listed but persevered. Interesting to see Carmen Street Wine under Bristol which I tried to add a few weeks ago, but it seems to have gone in to black hole. It’s still visible as a new pub, but I’ve not had an email to say it’s been approved or rejected, and it’s not on my pending approval page. Perhaps one of the approvers thought it sounded more like a wine bar, which it is, but there were a couple of options on tap.

The presence of the Roxy destroys the credibility of this list; guns in a pub? I live round the corner from the Walmer Castle and Pelican and I never touch them. Maybe they're good for food, but I'm not really a diner and they're out of my price range.
The Orange was a lovely place when it was the Orange Brewery, last visited in the late '90, but I absolutely loathe the place, the barmaid making Donald Drunk seem like Thora Hird by comparison...

There's nothing approvable I can see, so I'm mystified about what happened here - perhaps send a direct message to Dave?

The East Sussex choices are obviously all in Brighton.

I think I mentioned during the Salisbury crawl that the Engineer in Brighton had changed its name to the Argyle, and that it has a sign asking people to report other customers, and staff, if they overhear any untoward language... They're on the list.

Lest any potential visitor get grassed up, do we know what they consider to constitute untoward language? 'Next week, I'm going to a Peter Andre gig', for instance.

Just been taken over by Young's under the Cubitt House deal, Tris.

Maybe, but the lovely historic interior from my previous two visits - 1988/1999 - won't be restored; Cubitt House...out of the frying pan...
