Only two for me also, the Bell and The Countrymans Inn and both of these were pre BITE and PuG . But I think that says more about CAMRA's rules and selection focus nowadays than it does me.
Although a selection like this may be of interest to us, I'm not sure it excites and inspires many others and a list like this labelled as "The Top 16 UK pubs" does little to attract a younger drinking membership.
For example I showed this to a bunch of Thirysomethings who came along with their Dads for an evening beer in central London the other night and one comment was "so the best pub in London is a small micro well beyond the reach of the underground and overground! What old duffer came up with that stroke of genius?
Harsh, but I get his meaning.
My son, (who works in the trade, has all his cellar certificates and does know a thing about beer and drinking) just laughed.

Gann I can see where you are coming from.

Maybe the article title should have been " Top 16 UK pubs for real ale revealed " and the overall award should be called CAMRA Real Ale Pub of the Year.

At least that would make it clearer ,and reduce the subjectivity of the shorter titles.

There are still people in CAMRA who see the Pub of the Year competition as something of interest to the general pub-going public. But when you look at a list of 16 pubs - one from each CAMRA region - and pub enthusiasts like us here on Pubs Galore have been to two, or three, or four of them, it kinda puts things into perspective. That's not just a handful of these pubs in 2025/26, that's ever in our entire lives!

Definitely 10, plus maybe the one in Coniston, pre-PuG. Hoping to do the one in St Just in October, we’re down that way. A pretty good list overall, I would say.

Ah, that's more like it - this is a proper list of pubs that it is worth making an effort to get to. I've been to 27 out of 48, with plans to visit one more on 20th October.
