Danish Dynamite Explained

In Ian Mapp's review of The Bell (JD Wetherspoon) he "could find no reference as to what made it Danish".

Stonehenge Brewery (actually in Netheravon, just up the road, and nothing to do with the Stonehenge which Ian also reviewed) was previously owned by a Danish chap called Stig Andersen, a Danish national who had been a master brewer with Tuborg. He took over the Brewery and started being outstanding English beers with a bit f a Danish twist. Of note were the Danish Dynamite cask conditioned lager and Sign of Spring, their green seasonal beer (which I seem to remember is just their standard Heelstone with green dye). Stig and his family left Netheravon a few years back now, and the Brewery has carried on with the foundations he laid down.

Hope that helps, Ian.

Against all odds, Sam Smith's actually seems to be intent on reopening pubs, at least in their Yorkshire heartland. Big recruitment banners have appeared on many closed pubs and they have increased the managers' salary on offer again (although some unkind sources suggest this is in response to minimum wage increases!). Two have reopened near York this week and several others are the subject of speculation.

Early days yet, and they have a long way to go, but could it be that Humph really is letting Sam have a go at last? Petty restrictions still apply, of course, and beer selection remains limited but they do have some cracking traditional pubs.
