Aha - I was wondering about this the other day, as on my recent trip to The Knott there were two bitters on cask by Cloudwater and Wander Beyond, both modern breweries that you would be more inclined to associate with IPA and stout beer styles (and usually strong ones). I tried both and would say the Wander Beyond one was fairly middle of the road for its style, the Cloudwater one was better. However, tastes may vary.

The article suggests this to be a result of the Late Night Levy, that would not surprise me, an obvious if unintended consequence (or is it unintended?).

Tried the Cloudwater one last summer, it was excellent.

This one was called It's Not Over. Was yours the same one? I had another of theirs, A•W18 One-Off ESB back in December 2018, which was also decent.

The pub is in prime Jack the Ripper territory. Perhaps the pub should be known as the Jack the Rip-Off?

There's no justification for this at all. The levy only affects pubs open after midnight and this one is open until 01:00 for only three nights a week. If they don't like it they can close at midnight on those nights. I believe this is what JDW did in Islington. Judging by their prices they aren't shy about ripping punters off.

The £6.40 beer in question was Pacific Pale, brewed by Stone & Wood Brewery of Byron Bay, Australia. Given that this has been shipped halfway around the world, it's perhaps not as outrageously priced as the tweet and article would lead us to believe. I had a pint of Truman's cask ale in there a few months ago for £4.70, which is fairly competitive for the area.
Having said all that, adding a 65p 'late-night' surcharge to each pint purchased at 22:05 in the evening, is pretty shocking.
