Very surprised that neither Moby or Al include the Barton Arms as ticked? Maybe missed that in the list..?
Anyone know what might be happening with the proposed new outlet somewhere near the Wellie? Can't remember the brewery/group.

    Personal view:
    a) anything west of the A4540 Icknield Street as far as the Black Eagle is just Hockley;
    b) anything between the A4540 and the Birmingham & Fazeley Canal could be Jewellery Quarter or Hockley; and
    c) anything between the canal and A4400 Queensway could be Jewellery Quarter or Birmingham Central.

NB - A good map can be found at the back of this interesting English Heritage (as was) booklet: The Birmingham Jewellery Quarter - An introduction and guide.
Where an area has not been a parish or electoral ward it is a generally fruitless exercise trying to define its boundaries, Hockley has been neither, it was apparently part of a landed estate in belonging to the Colmore family. The Jewellery Quarter being an informal name is even less easy to define, as you surmise, luckily for estate agents.

I wish I'd found this site sooner - it would have saved me some typing and broadly supports my a), b), c) hypothesis.

Nope, never done it, maybe I'll hop on a bus next time, pretty sure you mean this one, I will be giving it a go on my next trip to Brum.

That one hasn't really registered with me yet, probably as it's just past the Wellington.
I remember going on a visit to Davenports brewery some 40 years ago and it was a real struggle to find anything decent amongst the sea of M&B and Ansells. I think we found a Bass outlet before the visit and a free house after.

Seven in all, I have a long day up there in June so may add a couple more.

    Craven Arms
    Gunmakers Arms
    Old Joint Stock
    Post Office Vaults
    Pure Craft Bar & Kitchen
    The Wellington
and in the others to try at the bottom of the list..
    Old Contemptibles
9 for me in terms of reviews, but that rises to 13 if we are talking about visits, some done when I was a student

Useful list when considering the 10th anniversary crawl this coming Autumn.
