The comment is out of date.
It used to be a Wenlock brewery house which is the reason it was a Bass stronghold along with a landlord who cared about the beer. The whole point is that Bass isn't Bass any more after being downgraded by Bass Charrington and today being any old rubbish from Marston's. It would appear that some people just can't see how a once great beer no longer exists. I may be slightly younger than Roger Protz but if he's been drinking Bass for the last 30 plus years believing that it hadn't changed then he doesn't deserve any recognition or respect.

This would be the Roger Protz who thought you couldn't have such a thing as Black IPA or that Ind Coope Burton Ale was a typical example of the original Burton Ales (the dark, strong and sweetish ones) or that 19th C IPAs were very strong for the time?

Apparently 11th April is National Bass day according to this member of the cabal.

No wonder I never come across it : only two outlets in Kent, neither of which I know, none in Sussex, and none in that part of North Yorkshire that I sometimes frequent. Don't often find meself in the Midlands.

I'd not had the stuff since the '70s and haven't seen it sold in London since. Had a pint of it at one of the pubs in Portsmouth and then again in Shrewsbury and rather wish I hadn't.

You can get it here if you fancy another go.

I don't know why I didn't visit when I photographed the place way back. No surprise that the Bass trademark is still displayed on the pub - a red warning triangle!

Was in there last night and its the best seller from 10 cask beers and they have been selling it for at least 50 years continuously. Don't think much of it myself.

Wow! A quality beer emporium and Bass is the best seller? Such is the power of the external advertising, I fell for the similar vintage branding at The Cross Foxes and then regretted my choice.

I tend to agree, though to be fair the one pint I had in the Myrtle Tree last year was the only one in at least ten years or probably more, as far as I was concerned it could have been one of a number of similar style beers from any national brewer.
