    Very good, Tris.

For all the advances in technology, I'm reminded of those bags that you used to hang on a hook behind the door (1970s/80s?). My gut feeling is that the product will be adequate but not great. Certainly agree with you about the water.

As I have drank loads of bad beers from supposedly professional brewers how can this be anything but beer flavoured water.

As beer is around 95% water, any beer is essentially beer flavoured water.

I don't remember that but I do remember Boots home brew kits which resulted in a product that made Doom Bore nectar.
When I used to brew beer in the 1970s it was with a mixture of malt extract and a mash but with real hops from the Home Brew shop.

You can still buy them in Wilco along with all the gear. There's a shelf in our local branch. And no I haven't tried it in about 40 years either.

I remember Boots homebrew kits - funny to think that a chemist would peddle something to promote the consumption of alcohol. I recall my dad brewing stout in a black plastic dustbin. I made a batch and at the time it was technically ready, it was indeed far worse than Doom Bar, Pride v.2 and anything from the West Berkshire Brewery. But I went off on holiday for a couple of weeks and when I returned, it was very fine indeed.

    Bag? Is that rhyming slang?

Before Llanberis had a supermarket the town chemist used to sell bottles of spirits. This was in the days of dry Sunday and the massive hypocrisy on drinking generated by the "Chapel".

All credit to them I say. I hope my new local micropub bans them when it opens. Trains shouldn't have a quiet carriage but a single noisy one so that anyone caught using a phone or any noisy device is fined £1,000 and slung off at the next stop. This carriage would be a living hell just like the old smoking carriage on the Victoria line back in the day.
