This pub was cursed by bad management taking it from popular local to disaster zone and now back to a half decent pub.

The "celebrity chef" taking over an established village local and trashing it is all too familiar. It's also a familiar story when a PubCo basket case has been rescued by a community buyout or dedicated new owners. Some people seem to have a massive blind spot about the importance of who runs a pub and how a pub is run, a pub is not a shop that sells beer. There are people who shouldn't get within a million miles of running a pub.
Having just read your review of the place, all I can say is hats off to the place for trying!

It's become fairly common for pubs not to open on Monday, less so on Tuesday. Even JDWs have their Monday club to try and get people in.
The Cotswolds is an area I generally avoid, although I do recall some nice rural Hook Norton houses in the far North of the area. They were quite cheap nearly 40 years ago but if Hook Norton village is anything to go by, no longer are.

Second home owners up from the smoke who aren't worried about ponying up twenty quid for a fancied-up lunch dish aren't likey to blanch at the thick end of a fiver for a lacklustre pint of Doombar. The locals, those who clean and paint those dachas, deliver the groceries and herd the sheep have long been scared off. Some of the larger villages still, thankfully, have social clubs.

I've also noticed that the area seems to attract a share of journalists and media types, despite the not so great journey into London.

Worryingly so. I've given up exploring pubs on Mondays as even pubs which claim to be open, often close insanely early. And Tuesday is now starting to bite into pub opening times.

Not to mention politician extraordinaire and shepherd's hut dweller David Cameron.

Banbury is less than an hour from MYB. Banbury taxis do a roaring trade up to places like Chipping Norton on a Thursday evening.
