Only ever been through Wigan BR on the way to Lancaster (now there's a drinking town!)
The Anvil is probably the best pub in Wigan Town Centre.
Many of the decent pubs in Wigan are on the edges of the town.
Other suggestions in the town itself would be
The Bowling Green and
Swan & Railway Hotel a bit rough & ready
The Boulevard changed completely recently and is GBG 2012 listed
Tudor House Hotel student oriented but with decent ale.
I haven't been to Wigan for a little while though and last time I was there I was at Robinwood Police station & then the Mags Court.
All work related of course.
A pub is for life not just for Christmas
