Default Pub Of The Month - November 2011

First possibility for POTM from our recent trip to Chester.

    The Pied Bull

Not a new pub to us, but one given a new lease of life by the owners.

It now has a one barrel brewery in the cellar.

Definitely one to visit when in Chester.

Another possibility from our recent visit to my second home, Edinburgh.

    Thomson's Bar

Excellent, typical Scottish bar, with great looking pies as well as beer.

No pub crawls this month so my pubs of the month are fairly local to me.

Pub of the month is The Globe in the meadows area of Nottingham, this is a single room pub but always has a good choice of beers on the bar and the atmosphere is really laid back when Forest or Notts County are not at home.

A close runner up is the Stanhope Arms in Stanton by Dale, this pub has been knocked into one room but still has different drinking areas, the pub does food but it is not in your face with no tables being laid out.
There are always four real ales on the bar and Castle Rock Harvest Pale seems to be on permanantly and it is just as good here as it is in central Nottingham

Has to be the Sheffield Tap for me.

I mistimed my day trip this week, having finished earlier than scheduled but with a train booked for an hour later than my colleagues. I tried to change to the earlier train, for which the ticket office offered to charge me £40.50, which was more than my original ticket cost. My response "I think I'd prefer to see how much of that it's possible to spend in an hour in the Tap" was met by an enthusiastic "That sounds like a much better idea!".

POTM for me was The Hand and Heart ,one of the many pubs visited on the PuG crawl of Nottingham. There is a good varied selection of real ale,an interesting interior and the obligatory cave.
In fact there are a lot of good pubs in the Canning Circus part of Nottingham and for my next trip in May ,thats where I will be heading.

My POTM was the Lion on Blakey Row in the North York Moors.Atmospheric in November, with fog and blazing fires, I probably wouldn't be so keen in the hight of the tourist season, but the congregation on our visit comprised like minded souls-walkers and locals engaged in enjoying an impressive line up of well kept ales. Nothing unusual, but all well kept:my annual adoration of the Old Peculier.

Well I'll be in trouble with a&h if I don't don't pin my gong to Fernandes Brewery Tap, Fernandes Brewery Tap , so I will.
A fine hostelry to bunker down for a few; comfortable, own beers & guests and, as I discovered when exiting, a separate 'lager bar' downstairs (with a couple of real pumps if you have to visit unenlightened friends/acquaintances down there..), hic!

After much consideration I'm going to go for The Pied Bull in Chester.

Good pub, good food and a micro brewery in the cellar.

and I'd be in trouble with him if I didn't nominate the Bull and Fairhouse, so I will.

Ignore the review by David Hammill, must have been an off day.

BTW A&H what happened to the updated review promised in 2010?
