I think there'll be a few zingers coming out from the Reading meet-up, I see Soup has already been making mischief with his review of The Monks Retreat (JD Wetherspoon)

Though Mr Fastard lays a nice sardonic line of his own: "The décor is classic 'spoons apart from the model of a punter trying to escape through a skylight." - perhaps a bit of decor more suited to the (much passed but never visited on Saturday) Hope Tap (JD Wetherspoon)

It wasn't until I read Soupy's review that I realised that ,of course, the model was a monk retreating from the pub. From a distance all I could see were two dangling legs,I was more concerned that some poor unfortunate have given up the will to carry on.

    Pie & Ale

Steve C was presumably pie-eyed when he left.

    The Havers

Tris C's comment made me chuckle.

Blackthorn's review here saves us all the trouble of beating a path to their door. Love the final para: This is a little tricky to mark. On the face of it, 2 seems to be a bit generous. But I suppose it could have been worse. It's not as though I got beaten up or anything.

That's my favourite pub in Bristol due to the diversity and madness that goes on in there. I actually suggested to Blackthorn that he needed to visit it to see it for what it's like. It's not a great pub for the purposes of sending people flocking to visit but what do you generally expect when it's surrounded by tower blocks and was the location for my dissertation on designing out crime/ improving the neighbourhood.

So the operation was a success but the pub died?
