After using the Pubs galore App while in Wolverhampton on Saturday to find a characterful pub to go to next I stumbled on this gem from Soup Dragon

    Tap & Spile

The clientele is unique. A microcosm. An agglomeration of; decent people, the best of Bedlam, the f***ing Tourette's Society and scrapings from the tank at the Sea-Life Centre.

Anywhere you can walk into and somebody is trying to sell boxed knife sets is a worthy venue in my eyes.

From the Other Side, about the Cock, Hackney

I've only been to this pub once but I had the most amazing time […] I went there with my sister and we quickly attracted the attention of the boys on the pool table as we were anxiously looking over at it hoping we might get a game but not sure how to go about it because it was free. They quickly welcomed us into their group and we had a few games and they were impressed by our skills. I got chatting to one very nice boy and was suprised to hear he had a tag on his leg from some sort of misunderstanding leaving another pub in the area and the kerfuffle that followed, and had to be home by 9pm or he'd start beeping. My sis made friends with another guy who took us off with his mate to a party at his friend's cafe bar, and we got in a bit of trouble on the bus on the way home that resulted in our new friends being thrown off the bus by London transport police but it was all really friendly. Tag leg called me a few times afterwards but i didn't answer.

Another gem from the other side, Thomas Rigby's in Liverpool:

"the food is out of this world. The local dish "Scouse" is on offer a bargin at 9.95 a bowel.I was informed by head chef David Lee that it is all made with fresh local ingredients"

I was going to say that anyone who can look at seven year old reviews, on the dark side, probably has too much time on their hands. Then I realised, that in the process of finding out the review was from 2008, I was hoist by my own petard!

I'm currently clacking out my Liverpool reviews from last month, always have a skim through the other side to see if we have any gems! Also useful for any changes in ownership and the odd useful indicator of previous incarnations/style. In that sense some of the incoherent ranting does have a use.
