    OB's latest:

the eight handpumps made my heart leap for a second but it wasn't to be - no pumpclips and no ale, my hopes of a decent drink cruelly crushed like a polystyrene burger box on a Sunday morning.

OB, were the scrapings from the tank at the local sea-life centre propping up the bar like they were when Soup Dragon was in?

Nope, just me and an old lady mopping the floor (I think she was the landlady). All the pond life appeared to be over the road in the delightful Old Still

Was rather tickled by this comment in Rex's review of The Beehive in E3:

'While I was there two or three locals came in with their dog, and while they started to open their packed lunches the dog took the opportunity of a sneaky pee on the carpet.'

If by some curious alignment of the planets I find myself in that part of East London, I suspect I won't be darkening the door.

From the Tiger Moth in Chatham:

Rex's worst pub of the year The Beehive . I wish I could encapsulate that much gloom into such an elegant review that describes the atmosphere of the place so well I felt I was there........... unfortunately.

I was put in mind of F. Scott Fitzgerald's shortest novel - " For Sale, Baby's shoes - never worn".

Thanks for that ob. Perhaps I should steer clear of Beehives, with two of them featuring in the last three postings, all for the wrong reasons!

Love the opening phrase from Steve C

My immediate impression of the Prince of Wales was not favourable as I walked through the door into an invisible wall of fart

Reminds me of a old mate of mine who used to insist that pubs called the Albion were bound to be rubbish. "I've never been in a decent pub called the Albion", he used to say. I reckon he purposefully avoided any Albion that might be half-decent just in case he was proved wrong..
