I never drank Lacon's but the name is vaguely familiar.

As far as I remember the Whitbread Chemical Plant at Luton was purpose built for Keg and Lager production, rather like the Courage abomination on the outskirts of Reading.

At least these people are doing something honest and worthwhile. I spotted Morrel's Varsity a week or so ago and it is apparently a Brakspear (Marston) Seasonal Ale, obviously brewed by Wychwood.

It is indeed, I ordered some from Marston's for The Baum a couple of weeks ago, it was OK but not remarkable in any way and it still says it's Morrells on the pump clip.

I seem to remember Varsity being a good strong bitter when it was really brewed by Morrells, this wasn't.

It sold out in just over 24 hours though, so it's in the cellar again this week.

Sorry, but my memory of it was very much a boring brown beer! I will only try the Marston's one if the only alternative is GK Ruddles or Doombar.

I did go to the brewery once, but it was an evening visit so the day was spent on the lash in Oxford, but I think the beer tasted good at the brewery. The only good thing I can say for them was that their beer was better than Morland's. I remember drinking a strong Morrell's beer called College Ale that went down well. Why don't Marston's re-create that?

West Yorkshire (and Wakefield) has yet another microbrewery to try. The new kid on the block is The Bosun's Brewing Co, based in Horbury.

Look forward to sampling them soon.

    Default Harrogate Brewing Co

At last this one seems to be up and running, three pubs, including the Old Bell Tavern allegedly had a delivery of Anton's beer this week, hope there's some left on Monday when I can start drinking again.
