    Default West country brewery

The former Hidden Brewery site near Warminster, one of the five small breweries local to Salisbury, has reopened under the name West Country Brewery. There is no connection to the previous brewery, and as far as I know, no links to the Bell at Wylye (though I stand to be corrected on that score as these things are not always obvious).

The owner, brewer Rod Macdonald, has announced that 2 ales are ready for distribution, but no names have yet been given (ideas welcomed). They are a 3.8% best bitter (West Best?) and a 3.8% blonde ale which should hopefully be seen in local freehouses.

“Higsons was known as having a very sulphuric nose and people used to say it gave them terrible hangovers. We have got rid of that and I think it probably tastes better now.”

    From the press release:

"Made using traditional brewing techniques and a unique blend of hop oil, Friggins is a highly drinkable thirst-quenching beer with delicious lemon and slightly spicy fruit flavours on the aftertaste"

Hop Oil? I was a bit shocked to see this. Most breweries use whole hops. Anyone else know of breweries using either Malt extract or hop oil?
