Do that train line that ecompasses Stourbridge, Dewsbury, Batley - many good station pubs there.

Otley is good, maybe as you say combined with Ilkley and Skipton in an Aire Valley Adventure. Shipley/Baildon is another possibility in the Aire Valley but all told there's probably too much brown beer for you.
Have you exhausted all that York has to offer? Obviously Pivni and the York Tap would be top of your list but there's still lots of great pubs and bars that don't get mentioned as often.
There's also Bradford and maybe the Holmfirth area (Nook and Summer Wine Brewery's home territory) with growing reputations.

Stourbridge? is that near Stalybridge?
Anyway, the natives are getting a bit restless up there with too many stag & hen parties doing the railtrail not to mention fat balding gits and their friends.

Spinko, just to back up what oldboots has suggested ,there is an interesting rail ale tour on the line from Leeds to Skipton with watering holes(all listed in the 2012 GBG) at the following stops:
Shipley Shipley Pride
Saltaire Fanny's Ale and Cider House Easier to walk from the Shipley Pride rather than take the train between these two.
Bingley Brown Cow Range of Timothy Taylor beers.
Keighley Boltmakers Arms Superb town centre pub and the brewery tap for Timothy Taylor.
Steeton and Silsden Kings Arms Rather long walk from the station, could take a bus .
Skipton Narrow Boat Market Towns Tavern with a good range of ales.
This rail line runs along the same route as The Leeds and Liverpool Canal and over the years I have been in all these pubs. The industrial archaeology on the route is also interesting ,if that floats your boat. Not sure you will find any BrewDog but a change is as good as a rest

Thanks for the suggestions.
I like the idea of York too - being in Leeds it always seems to make sense to take the 18 minute train to Huddersfield rather than the 25 minute one to York..less wasted time but it does mean I've visited York less than I ought to. I should take a map for that one though. I've done the Rail Ale Trail in bits and pieces but never all on the same day - being off Friday would help to avoid most of the crowds and behaviour that I've heard about.
I was thinking about the Tan Hill Inn but might save that for slightly better weather..
