    Default Wellington pub co

Is this a good pubco for a newbie to start out with?

Obviously free of tie is a good thing.

I'd welcome any advice, good or bad.

Probably the wrong forum for you as I am assuming you are asking if you should take one of the groups leaseholds on. There are several websites dedicated to licencees where you will get more qualified advice, e.g here
This is a general pub review forum, most members are drinkers although some do run pubs and some are involved in breweries.

I'm no expert however, looking at the website the general idea looks good, you are free of tie which means you can negotiate your own beers to stock and prices you pay will be less than a tied pub co like Enterprise or Punch, or a brewery like Green king or Marstons.
Most pubs are free to choose on their food supplies anyway.
Whether the rent you pay is overtly high or not is a business decision for yourself, also bear in mind what other support the owners offer - maintenance of the building, of the bar (e.g. handpumps), point of sale, promotions. Are there any favoured suppliers you can use for better deals etc.

I am based in the South West and ownly know of 3 or 4 of the pubs up for lease on the website, I'm not even sure if it is up to date. i know that the Admiral Hood in Mosterton has recently got new tennants. The pubs are considered genuine free houses but probably need their trade building up from a very low base.

But why would you welcome bad advice?
And you can really taste the hops!

There are a couple of pubs on there I know, Ship South Harting is one, and the Rising Sun Winchester, currently closed & I think it would suffer both from proximity to tourist trap Bishop on the Bridge, plus no parking & on a busy junction with narrow pavement
