Popped into the Hart & Spool in Boredomwood before the Super Soaraway Mighty Darts game yesterday (we lost). 4 Festival ales on but only 2 not yet tired and they were both regular ales (the Sheps Whitstable Bay & Batemans XB). Had higher hopes for the Gat Clock in Greenwich last night but again, just the 2 ticked off, Wharfebank Treacle Toffee Stout - glad that one is out of the way - not as yucky as it sounds but not my thing, and Vale Long Dark Nights which is front runner for me. Today attention will be turned to the Cap In Hand in Hook where I will try and persuede my mother that she wants to go for Sunday lunch and then my 2 local 'Spoons in Dartford that have so far evaded me and if I can't tick off 7 or 8 between them I will be seriously disappointed.

There were a good few Festival ales on in there the other afternoon, 5 if I recall plus a couple of the ciders.

Has anyone else found a JDW festival loyalty card yet? I saw some on the bar of a Watford Spoons on Friday night and got one stamped. Presented it at St Albans yesterday and although they have their own loyalty card (only to be used at that pub apparently) they still stamped mine. I've not tried presenting the card along with a CAMRA voucher, thought that might be a bit cheeky. It's a buy 6 get one free offer and only applies to festival ales. The card does say 'only at participating pubs' and they don't seem to be promoting them. Keep an eye out for them behind the bar though, the one I got was a gold colour.

I've now been in 4 different 'Spoons and not seen anything about a loyalty card in any of them.

Was hoping to get to the 20 mark by close of business last night but I seem to keep finding the same ales available in each 'Spoons I visit. Exhausted my 2 local 'Spoons to get to 18 but can't see me adding much to that until later in the week.

Definitely with 'tm' on this one, thought it was absolutely dire. Like drinking a glass of lemon Fairy Liquid. One for the alcopops generation methinks.

    Also tried yesterday:
    Brains - Dark.
    Shepherd Neame - Whitstable Bay.
St Austell - Proper Black. (My favourite so far)

Found this today and totally agree.

The Treacle Toffee Stout and the Bumble Berry cider were better than I thought they'd be. The Stone IPA was fantastic and if you are a lover of dark beers the White Horse Horse Rustler is damn good. Everything else was rather average.

Well that's four of us, on the boards, so far. Wouldn't be surprised if it proves to be the stinker of the festival.
