    Default Wellington (Shropshire)

I'm planning a quick visit to Wellington for the (previously postponed) game between AFC Telford United and the mighty Luton Town, on Tuesday, 13th September. From a quick look at the reviews on PuG, it looks like the Cock Hotel is the place for a pre-match drink. Does anyone know if there's likely to be any "no away fans" policy?

Also, as my train gets in at 17.59 for a 19.45 kick off, I could probably manage another two or three pubs. Any suggestions for a mini-crawl between Wellington station and New Bucks Head? Plough and Oddfellows seems to be best of a pretty poor lot, from the reviews I've read.

    Cheers

If you are going to other pubs then the Wrekin Inn is a must visit alehouse. It's a 10 minute walk from the Cock Hotel and about 5 mins from the station. Re-opened in 2009 and already GBG listed. A maximum of 7 ales on and one or two ciders on handpull. Friendly staff and regulars.....and my local.

Most of the pubs in Wellington are dire , the Cock Hotel is exellent but is not that big and gets rammed on match days , as MJ71 says the Wrekin is a good alternative , there is a new JDW the William Withering which is OK for a spoons , the Oddfellows has gone downhill a bit of late . The other side of town the Plough , Park and Stellings Sports Bar are OK if nothing special and close to the station .

Thanks for the tips. I've now got myself a ticket for an earlier train, so I've time to do the Cock before the crowd assembles, then the Wrekin. Might try the Plough too. Not keen on 'spoons if there are decent alternatives, but if the real pubs are as dire as you say I might have to give it a try.

    Cheers

If you get in the Cock Hotel , i would be tempted to stay there , its 2 minutes from the ground , 7 real ales with always a Mild and a Stout/Porter on .
If you want to see how dire the pubs are stick your head in the Three Crowns on the way to the Cock Hotel

I'll wait and see whether it's raining before I decide.

BTW, I think your map point correction for the Plough is a little skewiff. Isn't it on the corner of Plough Road?

...and indeed that's where your latest correction puts it. Apologies.
