    Default Fleet Street Restaurants

I am seeking to cover the unreviewed pubs in this area, but several of them are restaurants rather than pubs. I'm not seeking to create another 'what is a pub' debate, simply reporting the facts and inviting you to act in accordance with your current policy.

The Hare & Tortoise http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/67190/ is a Japanese restaurant that makes no claim to be a pub or bar. None of its 4 sister restaurants has a PuG listing.

Lutyens Bar & Grill http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/67191/ is a Terence Conran restaurant and private members club. It does have a 'bar and charcuterie counter' but you couldn't get a draught beer there (you could in theory get something out of a bottle, though doubtless you would feel pretty uncomfortable doing so if you weren't, for example, having breakfast with it).

Casa Catalina http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/23555/ is closed and boarded up. It was a Spanish restaurant, not a pub.

The Wine Press http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/64551/ is now the '28-50 degrees Wine Workshop and Kitchen', which is a restaurant specialising in the selection of wines you can have with your meal. It doesn't appear to serve any beer. The Wine Press before it was also a restaurant.

I am not trying to be a pub purist. By way of comparison, I was toying with the idea of suggesting inclusion of the Chi Noodle bar, on the basis that it has a bit of a bar area where you can have a beer served on tap, indeed it positively encourages you to do so by having a happy hour from 5.00-7.30 when you can get one for £2.80, and is therefore far closer to being a pub than any of the above establishments, even though it is obviously a noodle bar and not a pub.

    Hi Old Blue,

All of those seem reasonable, a pity that they all had pictures, so I was grateful for the explanations. All deleted now, the only pause (The Wine Press) I would draw is that I have no problem with Wine Bars (or dry bars) being on if they will draw interest from our audience, but not restaurants.

    Thanks for all those.

Thanks chaps. I don't have a problem with wine bars either (indeed have posted an attempt to review one about 100 yards away from that one) but from scrutiny on site am satisfied that is really a restaurant that you would go in for a meal with wine, rather than a 'walk in' wine bar.
