    Default Topless Pub

Well that got your attention pretty sharpish diidn't it.

For the benefit of those following the fortunes of the temporarily defunct original Wheatsheaf at Borough, I went past on the train on Saturday and noticed that the hoardings and scaffolding have now been removed to reveal the recently removed upper floor. Managed to get a snap as the train trundled past. Eventually there will be a railway line running directly overhead which should rattle a few glasses.

I'm now glad I took that picture because within 2 days of taking it, the bridge had been moved into place and the pub is now virtually obscured from the train and no-one will ever get a chance to take a picture of the pub from that angle again!

Interesting little article. I can't believe it will be 5 years before they actually use the bridge! I suppose it does mean that we will get 2 or 3 years noise free drinking when the pub reopens before the trains start rumbling overhead. I had a peek inside the pub a few weeks ago when the workmen had the door open. It does look like a building site (which it effectively is) but there is a large corrugated iron type fence inside which is presumably protecting the old bar area although I couldn't see much else. Danny the old manager is still at the new Wheatsheaf round the corner and the last time I saw him he was adament that the pub will be reopening as soon as they possibly can although not sure how things stand with the old name that has been transferred.
