Thanks for the tip-off, tm. I did think about this one, but it was short-notice and I had to decide if I really did want to spend several hours on one of Virgin's awful Pendolini; I decided probably not.
I have, though, got a couple more to bring to the attention of the group (as long as they are London, or South-East, based).
- Greater Anglia have another £5 seat sale, tickets on sale till 17th May. Travel on weekdays only unfortunately and also restricted to the Inter-City route (so, pretty much London/Ipswich/Norwich), but a bit of a bargain, and there's plenty to drink in Norwich.
- Southeastern have £10 day returns to a (very limited) number of destinations: Hastings, Broadstairs, Rochester, Whitstable, Ramsgate. No break of journey is permitted, although you could extend your trip to somewhere else with a cheap day return add-on. Good news is that these tickets are even available on the high-speed.
