Due to The Regal Moon in Rochdale having a Stouts & Porters festival, I've had quite a choice of dark beers this week.

Titanic Plum Porter, Vale Black Beauty & Mallinsons Cullen Stout all came close.

But........ Thwaites's in good beer shock.......

Not my favourite brewery by any means but this weeks BOTW is going to be Thwaites OBJ tried in The Baum. Dark Ruby Red in colour and very dangerously drinkable at 6.5%.

In Edinburgh, pretty much anything from Stewart Brewing would get my vote, but Pentland IPA is probably pick of the crop.

Late again and not due to being spoiled for choice, I've been retrying some lesser pubs in preparation for the GBG selection meeting so lots of John Smiths Cask, Black Sheep Bitter and Theakstons Best so I'm GRUMPY.

Best of the decent beers I've manged to get to was Wensleydale Black Dub Stout made with oats and a bit different.

It's a while since I tasted it, but I really enjoyed it. My BOTW also, at the time.

I'll go for the resuscitating qualities of Fyne Ales Hurricane Jack. First beer of day2 of my Edinburgh trip, at Musselburgh's Volunteer Arms (more commonly known as Staggs - no apostrophe on signage...)

Pretty good week for me, decent pints, or more, and in no particular order, of Fortyniner, Old Thumper, Jaipur, Young's Cornish Stout, Snecklifter, Workie Ticket and Directors.
BotW is a hard choice but in the end I have to come down on the side of the Cornish Stout. Only 4.3 but as smooth as silk..........
Pubs are a hobby, real ale is a passion. Oh, and like me dogs, fear no evil..........
