Default Beer of the Week (w/e 6 February 2011)

About to head off for a week away so no further drinking opportunities. Not a bad week with Cotleigh Long Eared Owl, Blue Monkey Evolution and BHB Asteroid all worthy of note but my BOTW goes to Dark Star Sussex Extra Stout. Does what it says on the tin, knocks Guinness into a cocked hat and a great warm up beer for an England victory.

I've had a good week for beer, this week:

    Ascot - Bravo.
    Binghams - Brickworks Bitter.
    Brew Co - Magnitude.
    Raw - Twilight Black Lager.
    Fernandes - Malt Shovel Mild.
    Fernandes - Pacific Jade.
    Fernandes - Cascade.
    Fernandes - Great Northern.
    Phoenix - Monkeytown Mild.
    Ossett - South Pacific IPA.
    Anglo-Dutch - Spike's On T'Way.
    Ossett - B2K IPA

The B2K was unbelievable. A 7.5% monster of an IPA, brewed to celebrate Ossett's 2000th beer. Single hopped with the Citra variety, it was utterly delicious. Easily BOTW.

Enjoyed a lot of beers this week, particularly round Bristol on Saturday rather than Weston Friday, and BOTW goes to the excellent Dark Star Tripel 8.5% enjoyed in the Three Tuns Bristol.

Brilliant list of beers on the 7 handpulls, and a lot of real ciders too for those in the cider market.

Had a good Sunday lunch with a couple of great beers from Hopdaemon from East Kent-Skrimshander IPA- and Golden Braid a 3.7ABV golden ale, bursting with East Kent Goldings and Challenger hops, followed by a floral quality reminiscent of Fremlins from back in the 70's. Excellent.

My BOTW was from a brewery I hadn't come across before ,Newby Wyke's Kingston Topaz.A 4.2% golden ale , hoppy taste but not overpoweringly bitter yet with a lot of flavours going on.I thought it was outstanding, and very well kept at The Red Lion,Preston near Hitchin.

However this was pushed hard by Thornbridge Jaipur IPA,which slipped down with alarming ease after a rare Palace win.

Good call - this was my BOTW last week.

I had a bit of a patchy week beer-wise with a few crackers amidst a sea of dross, but came up trumps with a fine pint of Rebellion Mild in the Wenlock Arms on Saturday.

Other contenders included White Horse Black Horse Porter, Adnams Oyster Stout (albeit not a patch on the Dark Star) and Gales HSB.

The main source of ales this week obvioulsy came from our Bath escapade yesterday and, as already stated in the Bath thread, I opted for Cotswold Spring Honey Bear although there was some strong competition.
