Stumped by a Pub Quiz Question - Anyone heard of this one ?

On Thursday night during the pub quiz in my local the following question came up:-

If someone was a hostelatalyst (may not be the exact correct spelling) , what would they be interested in ?

And when the answer came ' Someone who studies Pub Signs', my team collectively looked at me wanting to know why I didn't know it..

Never heard of it and I can't find anything remotely close coming up on Google and Wikipedia..

Seems like one of those supposedly real but generally made up words that used to pop up on 'Call My Bluff' to me, but interested if anyone has a greater knowledge than we did on Thursday Evening...

I tried googling it and the only place it came up was on this thread! All a bit suspect, if you ask me.

Looked through my collection of books on pubs including Shropshire Inn Signs by Alan Rose , secretary of the Inn sign society , not a mention .
There are a few sites that list all the various hobby/enthusiast names , no mention here either

A couple of months ago I made myself a member of the Inn Sign Society,and is referred to in one of the journals as Inn-signia but I am not sure if this is the official term

I've never heard of it - I've read quite a few books by Eric Delderfield, who's a bit of an expert on the subject and I don't think he ever makes mention of the term.
