    If we're allowed specific trees we could have the Penderel's Oak, apparently named after an oak tree on the Penderel estate where King Charles hid from Cromwell's troops during the Civil War.

    I knew that was the case with all the 'Royal Oaks', but have drunk in Penderel's Oak and had no idea re the provenance.

    The Penderels were the family who owned Boscobel House in Shropshire (I think the county is right) in the grounds of which was the mighty oak in which Charles II allegedly hid after the Battle of Worcester in 1651. The Penderels were Royalists who helped the King.
