Are there any guidelines on what type of reviews should be flagged up? Obviously Dave & Conrad are primarily interested in ones that may leave them open to complaints from the landlord, must there must be countless more that are pretty useless.

I was going to suggest this one - Queen Victoria Inn. Basically a one-poster complaining about the price of the wine and nothing else, and in any case £5.60 doesn't seem unreasonable to me for a large glass. Perhaps if she bothered to frequent a few more pubs she'd know that?

Also there is the reality that I just don't want to put up with the licensees moaning at me for trying to ruin their business. You wonder how many of these reviewers would leave that review if they had to publish their address next to them.

I actually do believe that Pubs Galore is here to promote good pubs as well, if it was just about reviewing pubs we would close the site, it costs money to run so why bother with it? There is an element of love in there somewhere, and in that respect I believe it is about rewarding the pubs that are providing a good experience. I accept if people don't need that forced down their throat in the guidelines though.
I think that puts it in a nutshell. Mind you, I'm not sure how happy Dave & Conrad would be if we sifted through all the reviews and reported any that don't fit in with the above ideal.

Anything that is potentially libellous or is offensive has to go. Reviews that are just heat of the moment rants are better gone from the site as they are likely to result in irate landlords abusing us. People complaining about the price of the wine really aren't high on my list of reviews to worry about - particularly when it is from 2 years ago.

You're right, that would be quite tedious. It isn't so much a case of being happy or not, I just think there are better uses of my adminstrative time than looking at whinges spanning the 9 years of the site.

On the whole most of the reports here are pretty useful and really help keep the site clean of rubbish.

In general don't feel you need to justify why a review should be removed, just let me know where to look and it should be obvious to me. It would also be helpful not to have discussions on this thread as to whether things should stay or not.

    Ketts Tavern

Not sure about this one - the landlady's rebuttal of Alan's review is polite enough, but does this set a precedent we want to avoid?

Alan told it how he found it,thats what reviews are, however I think the landlady has every right to reply in the way she has, although picking up on small spelling mistakes(Pooh) is a little petty.I agree about setting precedents, we don't want tit for tat ping pong games developing as in other places, but in this case I think the landladys reply should stay. Its up to Alan if he feels the need to contact her privately.
