    Default Guinness

When i was on a pub crawl in Staveley saturday 2 October i asked in two pubs for a half of Guinness as the pubs did'nt have any real ale on but was told i could only have a pint of Guinness.
In the second pub the friendly barmaid explained that "You get a can of Guinness out of the fridge that is undrinkable pour it into a pint glass put it on a metal device and a machine type thing sends electrical waves through the Guinness which makes it drinkable" i have been in thousands of pubs and never seen this before.
Has any one else seen this devise and do they have a proper explanation about it.

The Guinness Surger. I think they originally used these in places such as Japan, where many bars are too small to accommodate the usual keg system. It uses ultrasonic waves to mimic the effect of a traditionally poured pint settling, and giving it a creamy head.

Demo and explanation on this video from about 1:50 onwards. Think you can buy them for use in the home for about £20. If you really want to, that is.

And you can really taste the hops!

I have had a half pint of guinness served in pubs with no real ale before. Not a favourite tipple I must admit, but I wouldn't have a can of anything to drink - think they all taste tinny.

I'm with Gill on this, or I may just have a cider, probably Strongbow as you can be fairly certain pubs without real ale only have Strongbow

I love Guinness. In fact, if it were not for this beer, HTM69 may never have stumbled into the delightful world of real ales. My year-or-so as a solid Guinness drinker was really a transitional phase.

There are, actualy, the odd occasions when I'll opt for it over an ale.

I've been on it for about a year now and I seem to get different tastes as time goes by. Carling, Strongbow, Jack and Coke, Stella and now Guinness. I did have a spell drinking ale, but it didn't last that long as I was constantly disappointed with poor quality beers, you’ve all seen the sort of places I will drink in to do a review!
