A flying visit to the Lake District formed the basis of this week's drinking. Lots of new beers and three new pubs, as well.

    Hawkshead - Mosaic.
    Hawkshead - Dry Stone Porter.*
    Hawkshead - Windermere Pale.
    Hawkshead - Rookie's Return.*
Eden River Brew Co - Aurum.
    Barngates - Tag Lag.
    Kirkby Lonsdale - Monument.
    Windermere - Bad Dog.*
    Windermere - Shih Tzu Faced.
    Hawkshead - Red.
    Hawkshead - ITI.
    Lakes Brew Co - Pale.*
    Tirril - Staveley IPA.
    Kirkby Lonsdale - Stanley's.
    Cumbrian Ales - Loweswater Gold.

A pretty high standard, in the three pubs we visited, but the Bad Dog and the LBC Pale were the two that stood out, for me. When it's a close call, I always give the benefit of the doubt to the weaker beer. I thought the Pale had great flavour for 3.5%. Sampled at the Eagle & Child Hotel, Staveley.

I remember staying at that hotel in Staveley several years ago. The main reason was to visit the Hawkshead Brewery Tap.

Adams - Ghost Ship. A good pint in a very chavvy Derby Wetherspoons.

Our cottage was in Staveley and because of its location we'd call in to the Hawkshead Beer Hall, for a couple, before going on to the Eagle & Child. Overall, I was slightly disappointed with the Hawkshead range and thought the beers were more interesting at the E&C.
