It certainly does sound disgusting. I like a great cheeseburger, but I wouldn't want to drink one if that's how it actually tastes. I recently had one of Shep's new 'Cask Club' beers (Maverick) which tasted of garlic; garlic bread, yes, garlic beer, no.

I have no Idea to how the name connects to the beer, it didn't taste of cheeseburger and was pretty damn good, if you like hop forward beers that is.
Would I want A garlic bread beer? Almost certainly not.

I've occasionally had a beer like that. Apparently some people can perceive Summit hops as tasting of garlic, so it's not necessarily the brewer's intention, nor a brewing fault, nor a result of bad cellarmanship (despite it getting a mention in this piece on off flavours in beer). But Shepherd Neame Maverick is brewed with Centennial and dry hopped with Jester, Olicana and Ernest, so not sure what was going on there. Here's some more reading for you, if you're interested.

Interesting reading. Whatever the hop, Shepherd Neame Tom Cat would be a better name.
