December is always the worst month of the year for pubs

However I had a nice couple of trips whilst trying to avoid the hordes.

Just focussing on new pub visits, this was my POTM. A very good addition to the Worcester drinking scene by Black Country Ales.

Did get a few new pubs but none were POTM standard so I'll go with The Ten Tun Taphouse, there's nearly always two or three cask on despite Blue Scrumpys most recent, now year old review, plus always interesting keg and bottle/can options.

Just one new 'pub' this month and with a '7', it's automatically my best new POTM:

The Bear otherwise, the revamped Lamb & Flag.

December usually sees me on a pre-Christmas wander round Skipton. In previous years my favourite port of call has been the Beer Engine. However, with its expansion into two rooms, I feel it's lost a bit of its magic. Instead, I'm plumping for The Boathouse Bar. Too busy to sit inside, we had to make do with the heated patio area, next to the basin. However, some good banter, a cracking pint of Tiller Pin and the quiet pleasure of watching the canal boats pootling past made it an easy winner.

My sole new pub in December https://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/16012/,while more focussed on food had the invaluable asset of Larkins' Porter on our pre-Christmas visit.Oh yes, it looked magical in that vile snow.Just forget that it took us three and a half hours to get home. The Wheatsheaf, Bough Beech.
