I believe it's 14 days notice... but the rail company will fully refund tickets if there is strike action.

    14 days notice is correct.

14 days isn't long to scupper advanced plans.

Here's a list of Burton pubs (with Friday opening times from WhatPub) in no particular order:

    Devonshire Arms 12 noon
Brews of the World 12 noon
    Burton Bridge Inn 4pm
    Elms 12 noon
    Old Royal Oak 12 noon
    Dog 12 noon
    Coopers Tavern 12 noon
    Roebuck 12 noon
    Weighbridge 5pm
Fuggle & Nugget (now Beeropolis) 3pm
    National Brewery Centre 12 noon
    Last Heretic 4pm
    Alfred 4pm
    Burton Town Brewery 12 noon
    Tower Brewery Tap 4pm
    The Crossing 12 noon

Others may have suggestions they want to add.

One or two of these might be a little bit too much of a walk for some - the Alfred and the Elms are the farthest flung - but there are 16 pubs in this list so a little trimming wouldn't go amiss. All but six are said to open at 12 noon. As has been mentioned previously in this thread, aiming to finish near the station for the late opening Last Heretic and Weighbridge would seem to be a good idea. Either the Roebuck or the Devonshire might make a good meeting point, being about five minutes from the station and open at noon.

First attempt to put them into some sort of running order:

    Roebuck 12 noon
    Devonshire Arms 12 noon
    Coopers Tavern 12 noon
    National Brewery Centre 12 noon
Brews of the World 12 noon
    Old Royal Oak 12 noon
    Dog 12 noon

Google maps: 1st seven pubs (1.5 miles)

    option A:Elms 12 noon
    Burton Bridge Inn 4pm
    Beeropolis 3pm
    The Crossing 12 noon
    Last Heretic 4pm
    Weighbridge 5pm

Google maps: last six pubs (2.9 miles)

option B: The Crossing 12 noon
    Beeropolis 3pm
    Burton Bridge Inn 4pm
    Tower Brewery Tap 4pm
    Burton Town Brewery 12 noon
    Alfred 4pm
    Weighbridge 5pm

Google maps: final seven pubs (2.9 miles)

Doing all 16 pubs would involve quite a bit of walking, but by splitting the second half into two options (and missing out a couple of pubs in each) we can limit the walk to just over four miles altogether. There are probably better ways of splitting the pubs, for example we could make the National Brewery Centre, the Elms, the Tower Brewery and the Burton Town Brewery entirely optional (or wild cards), thereby reducing the distance for those who give those four a miss.

    Suggestions?

Good work Will, I need to do a bit more investigation as as my days of 16 pubs in a session are probably now behind me plenty of food for thought though.

I don't get involved really until decision made, and we will be on our way home from Nottingham beer festival on Friday 14 Oct but if anything scuppers us getting to that, we could possibly make it.

We enjoy Burton, and have done a couple of their ale trails getting round most of the pubs on your list, and plan to do their net one on Friday 2 Sept before going to Sheffield on Sat 3 Sept to do the West Bar fest in Shakespeare, Crow and Bar Stewards.

This is a good long list of 16 and the opening times are very useful. If we are looking to trim this list, the recent reviews for The Alfred and The Crossing may point to these as being wild cards and I agree about the Alfred and The Elms being out on a limb and more difficult to work into a crawl route.

The good thing about Burton is that it is not huge and pretty much level,so the remaining 13 could be possible ,especially if the late opening pubs namely Tower Brewery Tap,Burton Bridge Inn,Last Heretic and Weighbridge are all tackled after 4pm on a route back to the station.Should mean being around the station area around 6pm ,which is often the sort of time folk start to depart.

    Something like this

    First part.
    https://www.google.co.uk/maps/dir/Th...52.8067703!3e2

    Final Leg

    https://www.google.co.uk/maps/dir/Bu...52.8073563!3e2

4.2 miles in total.Couldn't do everything on one map,Google only allow 10 different venues on one map.
