Thread: Beer of the Week (w/e 17th July 2022)

    Sparse:

    Adnams Ghost Ship*
    Woodfordes Nelsons
    Elgoods Cambridge Blue
    Tiny Rebel Clwb Tropica (keg)*

BOTW goes to Elgoods Cambridge Blue. A 3.8% BBB which wasn’t the best but hit the spot on a remarkable, thirsty and euphoric day. Proof, if it were needed, that the circumstances and company in which a beer is drunk have a big impact on how much it’s enjoyed.

Just goes to show the variability of cask beer.

Bit late on parade - catching up after a long weekend off and trying to cram five days of work into four. A bumper week, topped by meeting the PuG faithful in Winchester on the Friday:

    Vocation Lower Altitude (2.8%) (can)
Queen Inn Brewery A Long Way From Pillowcases (3.5%)
    Alfred's Brewery Saxon Blonde (3.8%)
    Flower Pots Pots Bitter (3.8%)
Triple fff Pressed Rat & Warthog (3.8%)
    BrewDog [i[Light Speed[/i] (4.0%) (can)
Down South / Lidl Market Brew Pale Ale (4.0%) (can)
Siren Brew Suspended in Eclipse (4.0%)
    Oakham Citra (4.2%)
    Rebellion Excalibur (4.2%)
    Rebellion Smuggler (4.2%)
Twisted Brewing Co. Urban Legend (4.3%)
Brouwerij de Molen Op & Top (4.5%) (bottle)
    Flower Pots Goodens Gold (4.8%)
SALT The Final Straw (5.0%) (can)
Buxton 50Fifty Citra Olicana (5.5%) (can)
North Brewing Co. Future Skies (6.0%) (can)
    BrewDog Almost Famous (6.8%) (can)
Magic Rock Stiggy Pop (7.3%) (can)
    Beavertown Solar Flare (8.0%) (can)
Vocation "Special Edition" Aoraki (8.0%) (can)
North Brewing Co. Ultra Phase (8.5%) (can)

As mentioned by others, no real standouts in Winchester, but did get through a decent selection of cans from my nearest Tesco Extra at home. Best/strangest name of the week is a toss-up between Magic Rock's Stiggy Pop and name that probably means something to somebody: the Queen Inn's A Long Way From Pillowcases the latter taken at the Fulflood Arms.

The strong cans did it for me this week, with a Mexican stand-off between the three strongest: the Vocation just shading it:

    BOTW: Vocation Aoraki
"Breakneck speed we drown ten pints of bitter"
