If you're is down to the hops, here's the beer description.

"A Session IPA featuring some of the best new wave UK hops. Loads of citrus and tropical fruit hop aromas and flavours from the Olicana, Jester and Harlequin plus just a hint of spicy orange from the First Gold."

Yes. I wouldn't describe it quite so politely. Sampled at the Wenlock, it tasted of grapefruit to me which I can't abide. I'm sure some people will love it, particularly in this weather though I might go back for some more Painted Sanctuary and enjoy the beer festival at the Snooty Fox.

Called in at the Manor Arms in Broughton-in-Furness last Tuesday, one of my favourite pubs. I rarely get there because it's so far from home, and when I do I'm always on the way to somewhere else, so I never have more than one or two beers. The railway station is a bit more than a mile away, and trains are few and far between, so missing one can be calamitous. If I'm cycling or driving, it's a matter of maintaining sobriety. Last week I was staying at the very good National Trust camp site in Eskdale, and with the weather on Tuesday too grim for walking anywhere, I drove to Broughton (amongst other places).

There were seven beers on the bar, and I went for two that were sitting next to each other: Hawkshead Five Hop 5% and Logan Beck Proper 4%, brewed just over two miles from the pub. Contrasting styles but both in astonishingly good condition. I sat at the table with mouth agape, in awe of the quality of these beers. I think one of the criteria for NBSS 5 is that you change your plans and stay in the pub to have another. I seriously couldn't do that, but I did give some thought to how it might have been possible, including getting a hotel room, sleeping in the car, sleeping in the gutter...

I know that quarter marks have been outlawed by the Camra AGM, so I can't give 4.75 each. I make it 4.5 for the Logan Beck and 5 for the Hawkshead, but I could be wrong.

I'll go for the Darkstar APA, first of the day, in the Evening Star, on a Thurs crawl of Brighton.
Frustrating that I cannot remember its actual name, apparently brewed by the owner of the original recipe - 4.8% but tasting very like the current version of the beer (4.7%).
Some new venues with places like the Hare and Hounds (nothing worthwhile on cask) adding to the avg spend per pint, which finished at £5.08. I know this coz I tapped for everything and another of the group of five kept tabs on pints and halves for the end-of-day divvy up, unfair otherwise on those having occasional halves to contribute to a straight kitty, though I have tried a 'nominal rebate' system in the past! Any in-betweenies must be self-funded...

    Holidays:

    Rat White Rat*
    Redemption Big Chief*
    Salopian Kinetic*
    Roosters Baby Faced Assassin*
    Beartown Crème Brûlée*
    Barshams Close Call IPA*
    Adnams Ghost Ship*
    Beavertown Neck Oil (keg)

All good and the Kinetic was excellent but as Mr F has already bagged it BOTW goes to Redemption Big Chief. First time I’ve had it and hopefully not the last.
