    Essex:

Bishop Nick-Heresy: 4%abv.Workmanlike English Golden ale.Floral citrus, mineral backbone.A great improvement on an earlier experience of Bishop Nick.By default, my BOTW.

    This week:

    Oakham Bishops Farewell*
    Church Farm Session IPA
    Titanic The Wreckage
    North Cotswold Windrush
    Abbeydale Moonshine*

The Wreckage may well have taken the title had not just had a hint of being on the turn so BOTW goes to Abbeydale Moonshine. On superb form and easily passing the 3 pint test.

A flying visit to Worcester, over the weekend, was the basis for this week's bibbing.

    Hobson's - Town Crier.
    Ambridge Ales - Indian Troop.*
    Ambridge Ales - London Porter.
    Malvern Hills - Black Pear.
    Salopian - Golden Thread.
    Craddocks - Crazy Sheep.
    Prescott (Hanlons) - Super 6.*
    Mallinsons - Mixology II.
    Ledbury - Dark.

Overall, I was quite disappointed with the beer quality, which hovered between the adequate and the average. Only a couple offered a bit more. The easy winner was the Super 6, taken in one of my favourite pubs - The Cardinals Hat. It was good to see it how I remember it, as it had a spell in the doldrums, for a few years, apparently.

    Disruption Battle Royale Simcoe* k
Disruption People Of The Hop Vol lll* k
    Stockport Stout c
    Milestone Platinum IPA c
    Saltaire DDH Citra* c
    Animal Springbok* c
    Five Points XPA* c
    Five Points Best c
    Oakham Bishops Farewell c
    Oakham White Dwarf c
    Gipsy Hill Bandit k
    Howling Hops Tropical Deluxe* k

Many of the starred could be BOTW but the Howling Hops Swing Time on keg in The Ten Tun Taphouse was just so very good it has to be the one.

Started last week with a couple of beers from the last ever batch from Kelham Island Brewery at the Fat Cat. Both Kelham Best and Pale Rider were in tip top condition.

Next day was Acorn Barnsley Bitter at the Bath Hotel, a splendid beer in superb condition.

Thursday was a trip to Pudsey, where the beer was mostly pretty average, in the derogatory sense of the word. Three out of six were keg (Sam Smiths, John Smiths, and a very odd Worthington Creamflow that was dark instead of copper-coloured), and the cask beers were nothing to write home about.

Friday was Mickleover, a suburb of Derby, where the best beer of the day was the first: just a half of Everards Tiger. It was so good I immediately thought I should have had a pint, but with another seven pubs ahead of me, it just wasn't on. A subsequent Bass at the Nags Head, and another at the Vine were both pretty good, but even another Tiger at the Brunswick before the train back to Sheffield didn't come close to that first beer of the day.

Saturday was Leatherbritches Porter at the Blake Hotel, with a pale called Danger High Voltage from Bristol Beer Factory. They complemented each other (in different glasses, of course), but I'm not sure I could have managed a pint of either of them without the other to take the edge off.

Beer of the Week: Everards Tiger at the Honeycomb in Mickleover.
