Our favourite bar and one of the very few places to enjoy local craft keg in Valletta.

The Pub was the last place Ollie Reed drank before he died. Tiny and atmospheric with very friendly staff.

The Ordnance is a neat friendly bar owned by a famous footballer (for Malta). Lots of pictures of him with George Best etc.

I contacted a good Maltese friend, who lived and studied in West Yorkshire for 10 years, for his thoughts. He quickly pointed out that Malta doesn't have the same beer culture as the UK. Pubs with interesting interiors tend to copy the British style. He recommended trying the bars on Strait Street in Valletta, which are more Mediterranean in style featuring wine, gins etc. From a beer point of view he thought Kingsway, Taproom and Cafe Society, also all in Valletta, might be worth a punt.

Beers he rates are canned Double Red, canned Blue Label, Cisk Pilsener and the Fort Chambray microbrewery beers.

There are plenty of bars in small towns and villages, but they don't tend to be pretty and serve the dreaded Cisk lager!

    Hope that helps

He's just WhatsApp'd me a couple more: Beer Cave and Wild Honey, both in Valletta!

Thanking you (and friend!) Beer Cave is listed as closed on Google. I will pop my head round to check.

We found that Strait Street was either a) Closed in an afternoon or early evening or b) Totally hammered with youngsters later at night.

    Everywhere

I'm in the process of writing everything up for the Beer Europe blog. When that's published I'll post it on here.
