We had 275,000 visits to the site during August, almost double the figure of 142,000 from a year earlier as well as being a very nice increase from the 166,000 in July.
Traditionally August is our busiest month, we get a fair increase in search engine traffic, presumably because of people taking holidays, looking to find new pubs to try and in particular the high number of beer festivals taking place during the month. However much of the increase this time was due to some of the Facebook developments we introduced during the month. That has led to quite a few extra visitors, but comparatively few extra contributors.
We still need to be pulling in more quality traffic by improving our prominence in Google searches - something I'll be posting more about in the next few days.
Activity for the month on the site was:-
3856 photos of 1407 pubs
1497 reviews added of which 735 were virgin reviews
359 new pubs suggested (of which 329 accepted, 239 open, 90 closed)
434 map points corrected
358 web links suggested
530 new users joined
89 beer festivals suggested
203 pubs reported closed
34 pubs reported open
This compares to August 2009 when we had:-
7813 photos of 1634 pubs
489 reviews added
212 new pubs suggested
268 map points corrected
212 web links suggested
149 new users joined
92 beer festivals suggested
There were 1737 forum posts compared to 43 in August last year. This stat finally starts to become a bit more relevant next month as it was last September where the forum was starting to come to life.
The Pubs Galore Facebook page reached 914 fans (as of the end of August). Looking at the demographic information that we have available, apparently 49% of the fans are male and 49% are female. Any ideas what the other 2% might be?
