The Bartons is a stunning pub with great beer. I have been many times over the years en route to the Villa. The ground is walkable from there (anybody remember The Shareholders Arms) which was over the road?
To be honest, if you have been before you are wasting a chunk of quality time to visit again. There are so many good pubs closer to the city centre. If you haven't been it is worth visiting but you could say the same about Black Eagle for instance.

I'm not suggesting you visit, merely pointing out that there plenty great pubs outside the city centre. There are far more closer to the city centre!
Although to be fair the Black Eagle is only 3 stops on the tram from Snow Hill and takes about 10 minutes! Downside being t is a bit isolated where it is, much like the Bartons!

That's the problem. Not a bad problem though, either way you win!
My opinion for what it's worth - If I am visiting a city that isn't familiar to me I will try to tick off as many as I can in the time I have. I will make the effort to travel out for a real gem of a pub. The Barton's certainly qualifies and it isn't that far out of town. If all else fails it would cost about £6/ £7 for 5 in a black cab.
I used to jump on the number 7 bus right by the Hen & Chickens and The Wolf.

This has been fun plotting,so here is my view which of course is adaptable to add or subtract or amend. A bit messy with replacing tram lines down Corporation St to New St at the moment and stops keep changing round Bull St, so I propose I am going to do a dummy run to check opening times - have been iffy with some opening late afternoon - and bus stops - and well I could do with an entertaining day out.
Wellington opens 10am so good meeting place.
Bartons Arms a 51 bus there, then
Bull
Gunmakers
These are close together and can be done any order. I would do Hockley next as not far to Metro from Gunmakers and get off Jewellery Quarter
Jewellers Arms
Rock n Roll
Back to Colmore Row
Old Joint Stock
Colmore
Post Office Vaults
Craven Arms
then down to
Lamp Tavern
Anchor
White Swan
Spotted Dog
I would add the Woodman here
Reckon I will enjoy a wander on Friday 1st just in the name of research of course.
