You are begging the question (as in a circular argument). Imagine a disease that is always fatal. You could:

    A) Not vaccinate. Everyone will die.

    B) Vaccinate. Two outcomes:
B.1) The virus might work; nobody will die.
B.2) The virus might escape; everyone will still die.

Like about 95% of the population I'd rather go for the B.1 route rather than the inevitability of A and hope that B.2 doesn't arise. But if B2 does arise there is still:

B2.1) Vaccines are tweaked against the escape variants as they arise and given as annual boosters like influenza vaccines. Some will die but most won't.

I can't think of a single reason why anyone would prefer option A.

First time for about 10 years I've seen anyone using "begging the question" in its correct sense. "That begs the question" always seems to be used nowadays to mean "that prompts me to ask this question".

The virus was mutating long before vaccines came on the scene. Lockdown and the advice to avoid close contact "forced" the virus to mutate and produce variants like the more easily transmissible Kent version. The virus mutates all the time, but the successful strains (i.e. those that resist our tactics such as distancing and vaccines) will become increasingly prevalent; as the virus evolves, so will our vaccines. But on the other hand, there will be other strains that kill the infected person without them having the chance to pass the virus on, which means that those more virulent strains die out and the virus becomes gradually less dangerous on the whole. In addition, vaccines tend to make the symptoms less severe in those who, despite being vaccinated, go on to contract the virus, so that they survive and become more resistant to reinfection. The combination of large portions of the population with immunity due to vaccination or recovery from infection will, in the long term, make the virus less likely to be transmitted. The more resistance there is to accepting vaccination, the more prolonged this process will become.

Have my jab booked for Monday, not sure if my GP has decided to put me into priority group 6 or if they were inviting under 50s earlier in the week before the shortage was announced. Hoping it doesn't get cancelled.

    No, I thought not.

I have, they're simply warning people in NI to stay at home, wash their hands, keep social distance etc

    Where's the conspiracy in that?
The point was more that the contract is out until April 2023

As pub goers our main problem now will be that lockdowns have become normalised. A bout of seasonal flu will see lurid campaigns about how keeping pubs open (etc) is killing granny. Pubs will always be the first to close and last to open. Many people will also not bemoan the passing of pubs if it means "working" from home, or a few months on furlough each year.

Another compelling argument to have the jab I would have thought.

When healthy under 50s risk their health, and their unborn babies' health by doing so, no.

What happens is the vaccines modify your DNA, including that of your sperm/eggs, and your offspring will grow up to be Bill Gates, or a chimp. At least I think that's how it goes; I'm sure S will provide chapter and verse with links to the relevant peer-reviewed papers.
