Default Best pubs visited in 2020

I've been looking back through my reviews of pubs visited in 2020 to refresh my memory - helped by there being fewer than in previous years. I made 359 visits to 211 pubs, of which 104 were pubs that were new to me. Normally I'd be looking for scores of 9 or 10, but this year I'll kick off with those that managed an 8.

    Scarbrough Hotel, Leeds
    New Inn, Clitheroe
    Greaves Park, Lancaster
    The Duke William, Stourbridge
    The Royal Exchange, Stourbridge
    Kings Head, Gunnerside (Swaledale)
The Burton Bridge Inn, Burton on Trent
    The Elms, Burton on Trent
    The Robin Hood, Pontefract
    George Inn, Hubberholme (Wharfedale)

Now four pubs that scored a 9:

    Talbot Arms, Settle
    Plough & Harrow, Stourbridge
The Royal Oak, Borough, London SE1
    The Swan & Railway, Wigan

And finally, just one pub with a review in 2020 that scored 10:

The Cover Bridge Inn, near Middleham (Wensleydale)

...but we've not finished yet. My most visited pub last year was one of the nearest to my home in Sheffield, and it's not the Kelham Island Tavern, Shakespeare's Ale & Cider House, the Crow Inn, the Fat Cat or any of those usual suspects. I gave it a 10 when I reviewed it in 2019, and it certainly hasn't got worse in the last 12 months.

    Pub of the Year 2020:

    The Blake Hotel, Walkley, Sheffield
    Come On You Hatters!

I had six pubs that scored a 9 this year, which seems pretty good in such a lean year for pub-going. I'm a bit surprised to find that five of the six are micropubs - not really my favourite type of pub but I happen to have been to some great ones this year. The six in question are:

    The Admiral's Arm, Queenborough
    The Penny Farthing, Crayford
    The Hangar, Blackfen
    The Malling Jug, West Malling
    The Jolly Farmer Inn, Bramley

and my Pub of the Year - The River Ale House, Greenwich

A friend of mine moved to Walkley earlier this year, not too far from the Blake Hotel, so I'm hoping I'll get a chance to visit him and check the pub out later this year.

All of them are in my part of the world apart from Bramley (and that's not the other side of the moon from me), and I've still not managed to visit any of them -ridiculous!

As mentioned else where these were the top three new visits last year in no particular order.

The Old Green Tree - Bath
    The Jolly Fisherman - Hastings
    The White Horse - Hedgerley

The heighest scorer for 2020 and a very worthy winner of POTY is

    The Kings Ditch

A friendly micropub visited twice during social distancing requirements ,the quality of pub and ale banter set this place apart and was a real tonic in these trying times.Great curry opposite as well.

I'm glad that the Kings Head is flourishing again, though I think your visit predates the installation of the current Guv. I was hoping to find out in November, but of course Doctor Pandemicus put paid to all that.Likewise the Cover Bridge,(probably my favouritest pub in all the world), and potentially the Hubberholme George, long standing member of my wish list.

Of the few pubs actually visited this year, I commend this for beer choice and quality:
Larkins' Alehouse, and this for general post Lockdown joie de vivre : Surrey Oaks
