Norfolk - is it really that good for beer?
Just got back from a week in Norfolk. I visited a number of pubs which I will bore you with:
The Vernon Arms - Southrepps
The Foundry Arms - Northrepps
The Nelson Head - Horsey
The Crown - Trunch
The Fat Cat - Norwich
The Windham Arms - Sheringham
The Suffield Arms - Gunton
The White Horse - Overstrand
The Hill House - Happisburgh
I would have gone to more if Mrs Staal was more pubby!
My point is, all these pubs served quality ales (I am in the process of reviewing them and uploading photos). Is this common in Norfolk, or was I just lucky? Service in two of them was 'interesting', but even here, I could not fault the beer.

The Fountain, Gornal, has as many real ales

I dunno about today, but when I was at University there in the 70's it was a real beer desert-Watneys everywhere, only refreshed by the very occasional Adnams, Tolly Cobbold or don't dare laugh, Greene King pub. Sounds as if its pretty good now.
Hope to be in the Fens on Wednesday!

Reason: spelling mistakes-well I have been to a wedding with Harveys straight from the barrel

The Fat Cat in Norwich had 12 handpulls and 15 real ales on gravity. There is a pub in Norwich called the Duke of Wellington that allegedly has 14 real ales on, but I was unfortunately unable to visit it.
All the Woodforde's beers I tried were superb, as were those by Wolf Brewery, Humpty Dumpty and Buffy's. St Peter's Brewery is down in the area (maybe Suffolk) and I wanted to try their beer, but only found it bottled in the two National Trust properties I visited.
If you like dark ale, Woodforde's Nog is the future!
