I haven't been to many yet, notable omissions being the Kelham Island Tavern and Shakespeares. I hope to do the latter this afternoon or tomorrow. The Crow Inn was good when I was there a couple of weeks ago - they ask for contact name and number and write it down themselves. Limited tables inside and no standing at the bar.

I was at the Blake Hotel the other day, which has a QR code but if you don't use a QR scanner you can key in the URL in a browser on your phone to register your presence. (Sister pub the Wellington had staff wearing visors as well as a perspex screen at the counter, while the Blake just had the latter.)

Fat Cat had a pad of paper for you to write your details, with just one pen.

I went in the Gardeners Rest for a shareholders preview, when they were testing out their systems and approach. I think they've increased the number of tables since then; T&T was via QR code/website.

Went in the Shakespeares after meeting two mates at the Crow Inn today. The Covid precautions were fine, but the only cask beer on the blackboard that I was interested in was "off", and the keg offering was also not to my taste, so I (rather embarrassedly) declined. Staff were very friendly and welcoming, and didn't seem to take offence when I walked out without a beer. (The number of beers on offer were down on usual, which is understandable, but once I'd ruled out Abbeydale Deception and Acorn Barnsley Bitter that left three beers on hand pump, none of which seemed likely to do it for me, and I likewise narrowed down the keg options to a possible stout whose name I couldn't read, but this turned out to be Hawaian, which I correctly interpreted as coconut and pineapple.)

The KIT had the most unwelcoming Covid precautions of any pub I've been to, with furniture positioned to prevent approaching the bar, and blackboards propped up listing the beers. But the barman was determined to steer us to a table before taking our order, and of course once I'd walked away from the bar I couldn't remember which beer I wanted! To cap it all, I went for a local keg beer from St Mars of the Desert, which was both cold and gassy (yes, I know it's keg, but at the Crow they generally manage to serve their keg beers at both tolerable temperature and reasonable gasiness), and even when it warmed up was not very interesting. Meanwhile, the licensee was pulling through the next beer on which turned out to be Acorn Gorlovka, so I might go back tomorrow.

We ended up at the Wellington, which seems to have the most relaxed policy of those I've tried in Sheffield (along with the Blake, as mentioned before), while still aiming to protect staff and customers.

Thanks for the info. Hoping to start at the Tap and move over to Crucible Corner area so probably Head of Steam.. After that it's all to play for. It might depend how we're feeling in the 29c temperatures...

Amidst the heat, all we (Tony Blair and Gordon Brown for the day) ended up doing was the Benjamin Huntsman and Head of Steam. At the latter, ended up on a Camerons pale - might as well have stayed on Teesside!
